The Android app is the next big thing for Kegbot, and I'm looking for a few more testers before releasing it.

The app completely replaces kegbot_core in your setup. You need to be willing to run your kegbot with the app and report bugs. You also need one of the supported tablets: Motorola Xoom or Samsung Galaxy 10.1.

Shoot me a PM or email if you're interested!

Is there a specific reason why only the Xoom and Galaxy Tab are supported as of right now? Is it due to Honeycomb requirements? I'm currently looking to buy (this week) an Android tablet and I've had my heart set on the gTablet from ViewSonic. The stock OS/firmware is garbage, but there have been Honeycomb and CM firmwares available for some time. Has USB host, but there were some initial problems getting it working in the Honeycomb mods; I believe this has been fixed now.

Anywho, if the gTablet sounds workable, I'll order; otherwise, I'll keep my eye out for some deals for the Galaxy.

Thanks,
-Ian-

Main reason for Xoom/Galaxy is that they're the only Honeycomb tablets I have access to

I fully expect to be to support more and more models over time, tho at this stage I want to focus on making the app great on the "mainstream" devices (since keeping up with different configurations / quirks / mods could be a big time sink). Tho if you're willing to take the risk I can add you to the beta

The story will be much better in a couple months, too, in terms of both compatible hardware out there & kegbot app support; so this is really just the short term we're talking about.

cheers,
mike

That is the biggest issue I have with Android, the fragmentation of all the various hardware configurations.

That being said, perhaps it's a perfect way for me to both get "intimate" with the Kegbot code while also adding support for one more tablet. I'll work on downloading the latest SDK tonight after work. Do they have a tablet emulator built in now? There was only a phone one last time I used it (2.1?). If not, I can just wait until I order the tablet to start playing/testing.

So what do you need from me to get me on the beta?

Also, are there plans to expand support beyond Honeycomb? Obviously Ice Cream Sandwich is on the horizon and will likely be supported, but I'm curious if you have any 2.2/2.3 support plans as of right now? Without seeing the code yet, I'm not even sure if that's possible. Figured I'd ask!

Definitely interested in the beta, although probably more in the source code aspect. I currently do not have a tablet yet, although a Galaxy Tab is on my list of things to buy in the upcoming weeks. As previously discussed I am looking forward to start adding additional platform compatibility to the app (froyo, gingerbread, google tv). It is possible to roll all of these into one apk, and have it display/function appropriately for different devices. I currently have a couple apps that work this way.

Yeah, same here on the source (which I believe is open according to the preview post?). I've even thought about doing a "port" for iPad/iOS using this little guy right here: http://www.makershed.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MSRP01 so let me know if anybody would be interested in iOS support as that is something I already have (all three device types: iPhone, iPad, iTouch). I just bought an iOS programming book yesterday as well, so it would be a GREAT first project.

Any updates on this? Did you ever get more testers? I've narrowed my purchase options down a bit and was looking for a clarification: Is there a specific resolution you're aiming for? I know both of the tablets mentioned are 10" 1280x800, but I'm currently looking at an 8" 1024x768 tablet that has USB support (Archos 80 G9 to be specific); would there be an issue at this resolution? If not, I think I might purchase this tablet soon.

Let me know if there are any updates and/or official specs/timelines!
