Hi Moreno,

Are you using an arduino in between or are you trying to go directly from RFID reader to iPad?

My goal is connect directly a rs 232 rrfid device.

Moreno, you may need an extenal power source. I'm pretty sure the iPad won't be able to supple the power required by the RFID reader. But the way you would connect it (the easy way) would be to buy an ipodbreakout from sparkfun. Depending on the version you get, you would need to connect the data pin to either pin 13 or 14 on the breakout board. Ground is 15 or 16.

For the iPad to be able to receiver serial data, it either needs to be jailbroken or you need to be a member of the Apple MFI program ($99)

Actually, it's the entry-level, most basic developer program access that costs $99. To be blessed for access to the serial port, you need join the MFI program -- which has unspecified (and likely significant) costs and terms.

The most straightforward way to get meter data into a non-jailbroken iOS device is to use the network.
